The model, the math, the answers.
The model
MANTL places original work in your room on a three, six, nine, or twelve month term. Every payment credited toward acquisition. You may acquire the work at any time during or after the term, or return it at the end of the term and choose another.
Available Works is small and curated. No prints. No reproductions. No editions. Each work is one of one, made by an artist on the founding roster.
The math
- Collected Value
- The full price of the placement. Artwork Value plus Care and Placement.
- Artwork Value
- The acquisition price, set with the artist. Available during or after the loan term. Exclusive of Care and Placement.
- Care and Placement
- $1,150 per work for residential placements, $1,750 for enterprise. Customer-funded and included in Collected Value. Covers professional handling, gallery framing, selected glass, transport and installation.
- Initiation Fee
- Care and Placement is included in Collected Value and distributed between a $500 Initiation Fee and the Shopify-managed monthly payment schedule.
- Loan term
- Three, six, nine, or twelve months, whichever terms are available for the work. You choose at commitment. Acquire at any time during or after the term — or acquire outright at Collected Value: no term, and no separate Initiation Fee.
However you arrive at ownership, you never pay more than Collected Value.
Common questions
What is the difference between a loan and a rental?
A rental ends with the work going back. A MANTL loan ends with a choice: acquire the work, or place another. Every payment credited toward acquisition.
Can I choose a specific work from the gallery?
Yes. Browse the gallery and choose the work you want. Or start with a conversation and let a curator propose three to five works for your space.
What if I return the work at the end of the term?
You may return the work at the end of the term and place another. Previous payments are not refunded. Care and Placement was the service required to prepare, transport and install the work.
What is Care and Placement?
Professional handling, gallery framing, selected glass, transport, and installation. The work arrives ready to live with.
Do you sell prints or editions?
No. The MANTL catalog is one of one originals from the founding roster.
How are artists paid?
60% of loan revenue and 60% of acquisition proceeds, calculated on Artwork Value. Artists pay $0 toward Care and Placement. The customer funds the service, and MANTL manages it from framing through installation.
Can I acquire the work early?
Yes. At any time, the price is the acquisition price less the payments already credited, plus any unspread Care and Placement. You never pay more than Collected Value.
