Frequently Asked Questions
How MANTL Works
One value. One monthly payment. Every dollar builds toward ownership. Here is how the system works for collectors, artists, and enterprise clients.
Pricing and Payment
One value. One monthly payment. Nothing else.
How does pricing work?
Every work has a single number called its Circulated Value. That value determines your monthly payment. Choose a 6 or 12 month term, and your monthly amount is calculated from the Circulated Value plus a one-time Care and Placement fee that covers handling, framing, transport, and installation. There are no hidden fees.
What is Circulated Value?
Circulated Value is the total value assigned to each work. It reflects the artwork's appraised worth and is the basis for both your monthly payment and the acquisition price if you choose to purchase. It is listed on every work in the gallery.
How do I find out what a specific work costs per month?
Every work in the gallery displays its Circulated Value. From there, your monthly payment depends on the term you select (6 or 12 months). You can also reach out to us directly and we will walk you through the numbers for any piece.
What terms are available?
We offer 6 month and 12 month terms. Longer terms result in lower monthly payments. Nothing resolves early.
Are there any fees beyond the monthly payment?
There is a one-time Initiation Fee paid at commitment, and a Care and Placement component rolled into your monthly payment. Beyond that, there are no additional fees. Insurance is your responsibility through your existing renter's or homeowner's policy.
What is included in every placement?
Every placement includes professional handling, framing, glass (per piece), transport, and installation. We manage the full process from our hands to your wall.
Loan to Own
Every dollar you pay builds toward ownership.
Can I purchase a work I'm living with?
Yes. At any point during or at the end of your term, you can acquire the work at its Circulated Value. Every dollar you have paid during your loan is credited toward the purchase price.
How does loan credit work?
Your monthly payments accumulate as credit toward the Circulated Value. If you decide to acquire, the remaining balance is the Circulated Value minus what you have already paid. It is a clean, transparent calculation.
What happens at the end of my term?
You have three options: acquire the work (with full loan credit applied), continue with the same piece on a new term, or choose something new. There is no obligation and no pressure.
If I purchase, does the artist benefit?
Yes. The artist receives a share of the acquisition. MANTL's founding terms allocate 70% of every acquisition to the artist.
Is there any obligation to purchase?
None. The loan-to-own path exists if the work belongs in your life. If it does not, you can return it or start fresh with something new. The relationship matters more than the transaction.
The Work
Original. Always.
Is every piece original?
Yes. Every work placed through MANTL is original. No prints, no reproductions, no editions. One of one.
Who are the artists?
We work with emerging artists early in their trajectories. Every artist is vetted by our curation team. Their work is real, their practice is active, and their careers are still forming.
How is a work matched to my space?
Our curators match work to your space based on what you share with us: how you live in it, what it needs, and what you are drawn to. This is not a catalog filter. It is a considered selection.
What happens if a work is damaged?
Clients are required to carry renter's or homeowner's insurance that lists the artwork for the duration of the loan. If an incident occurs, your insurer handles coverage under your personal policy. MANTL coordinates logistics between you, the insurer, and the artist.
Can I choose a specific work from the gallery?
Yes. You can browse the gallery and request a specific piece, or you can let our curators propose works matched to your space. Either path works.
For Artists
Income, not exposure. Every month the work is placed.
How do artists earn?
Artists earn a share of every monthly payment for as long as their work is placed. MANTL's founding loan terms allocate 60% of every loan payment to the artist.
When do artists get paid?
Artists are paid monthly, on a recurring basis, for every month their work is lived with.
Who pays for framing and installation?
MANTL covers framing, glass, transport, and installation through the Care and Placement fee. The artist does not pay for any of this.
Does the artist retain ownership?
Yes. The artist retains full ownership of the work until a collector chooses to acquire it. MANTL facilitates the loan, not the transfer of ownership.
How is this different from a gallery?
A gallery sells work once. MANTL places work in the spaces people actually inhabit, and pays artists recurrently for every month it is lived with. Income is ongoing, not one-time.
Can I have multiple works placed at the same time?
Yes. Your portfolio can be placed in multiple locations simultaneously, each generating its own monthly income.
How do I learn about the specific terms?
Start a conversation with us. We will walk you through the numbers, the process, and the timeline. Nothing is hidden.
For Enterprise
Managed terms. Operating expense. One point of contact.
How does enterprise pricing work?
Enterprise pricing follows the same Circulated Value model. Volume placements may be structured with custom terms. Reach out and we will build a proposal for your space.
Can we place multiple works across our offices?
Yes. We manage multi-location programs with a single point of contact. Each space gets its own curated selection.
How is this expensed?
Monthly loan payments are an operating expense. There is no capital outlay unless you choose to acquire. This is not a purchase, it is a managed program.
Do you handle everything?
Yes. Curation, logistics, installation, insurance coordination, and rotation. Your team does not touch it.
What happens at the end of a term?
Same as home placements. Acquire the work, continue, or rotate to something new. We manage the transition entirely.
Logistics and Process
We handle it. You live with it.
How long does installation take?
Once selections are finalized, installation typically takes two to four weeks depending on location and framing requirements. We manage everything from transport to hanging.
What areas do you serve?
MANTL currently operates within the United States, with international placements reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
What if I want to exchange a work during my term?
If the piece is not right, reach out. The relationship matters more than the transaction. We will work with you to find something that belongs.
Is there a minimum commitment?
The minimum term is 6 months. Nothing resolves early.
